This page is dedicated to the world of music. Music is one of the most important things in my life and this is where I’ll let you know what I like and what I’m currently listening to, and what you should be listening to. I’ll be adding a little bit at a time. I love to recommend good music to people just as much as I love to listen to it.
We’ll start with Ryan Adams
Songs you should listen to: Shadowlands, How Do You Keep Love Alive, Let It Ride, New York New York, Oh My Sweet Carolina, Call Me On Your Way Back Home, A Kiss Before I Go, Blue Sky Blues, and Elizabeth.
If you only buy 1 CD, buy Love Is Hell. It’s the best album song for song.
All of these will give you a good idea of how different each of his albums are. There really aren’t too many “bad” Ryan Adams songs. I will go for a whole month and listen to 99% Ryan Adams music.

Next up: Led Zepplin
Songs you should listen to: Albums I-IV. Seriously. get all 4 and listen to all songs.
Most people have no idea that I love Led Zepplin, but since High School, I have always dedicated a lot of time each year to listen to Led Zepplin. Just like Ryan Adams, it will be something that I will listen to for a month straight.

Today’s choice: John Mayer
Songs you should listen to: Wheel, Something’s Missing, Clarity, I Don’t Trust Myself, Belief, Gravity, Vultures, Stop This Train, Slow Dancing in a Burning Room
Go ahead and kill me for listening to John Mayer. I’ll agree, there’s nothing spectacular about Room For Squares, but he’s come a very long way since his first acoustic/pop/teenie bopper album. Continuum is amazing from start to finish. Musically and lyrically it’s a beautiful work of art. We’ll be going to see him in concert live for the 1st time in August. Should be awesome. If I could get half the tone that he gets out of his guitar and play with 1/4th of his skill, I feel like I’d be awesome.

Now playing: Kathleen Edwards
Songs you should listen to: In State, Copied Keys, Good Things, What Are You Waiting For, Away, Summerlong, Asking For Flowers
Kathleen Edwards is an amazing female version of Ryan Adams. The best album by far is Back To Me. The song Back To Me got heavey play on CMT and that’s where I found out about her. I think it was also the single of the week on I-Tunes. After buying the album, it was the only CD I listened to all summer long as I ran or worked out. Pick up the whole album. There is not a bad song on it in my opinion.
——————————————————————————–
One of the Best: Mindy Smith
Songs you should listen to: Come To Jesus, Falling, Hurricane, Down In Flames, Fighting for It All, One Moment More, Out Loud, Edge of Love, Please Stay, You Just Forgot, Out of Control, Long Island, and Peace of Mind.
Mindy Smith came onto the scene in 2004 when she covered Dolly Parton’s Jolene. I saw the video on CMT numerous times, and finally someone gave me a copy of One Moment More, her first CD. It was an interesting time of life for me and I listened to this CD many days and nights. Her songs are simple, but powerful. She sings almost as good as my wife. Every song is just beautiful and soothing. If you’ve never listened to it, you should check it out as soon as possible.

Aw! Kyle and I were just talking last night about how Ryan Adams’ best CD is Easy Tiger. Sorry, Trav. But you’re wrong on this one!
(Actually the conversation was more about how we saw him with The Cardinals last October and they played pretty much the whole album. And that’s probably why we love it so much.) (But it’s still the best!)

Well, whatever you say. I do love Goodnight Rose and Two. I honestly haven’t spent enough time listening to that CD though.

I forgot to add that I would have loved to have seen the concert. When I saw Ryan Adams live 3 or so years ago, I thought it sucked. He was as high as could be and it pretty much just sucked.

Actually, neither of us are _big_ Ryan Adams fans. We like certain songs that he’s done (like Sweet Carolina and a few others) and can definitely appreciate the impact he’s had on the industry (specifically Charleston local acts).
But a friend of ours was coming down to see him play in Charleston. And he said he’d give us both tickets to go if we’d let him stay with us. I’m pretty sure he got the short-end of that stick, but … whatever.
Sadly, we didn’t even know it was Ryan Adams playing until about 30 minutes in. We kept thinking, “MAN! These guys are GOOD for an opening act.” Lame, huh? In our defense, he’d just gotten his hair cut off, literally the day before the show. And, while he was still wearing his signature pearl buttons … that’s not really a “signature” thing anymore since EVERYONE wears them!
Anyway. Yeh. After the show we went straight out and bought Easy Tiger. Great CD. Two and Goodnight Rose are two good ones. My favorite, though, is Rip Off.
